Premise Security and Investigation Experience Summary

My experience includes the evaluation of many areas of premise security measures and whether security measures are adequate and meet the generally accepted practices and best practices of the industry. I have been a security trainer and Adjunct Professor at the college level with over thirty years of experience.  I have considerable knowledge regarding security guard and private police operations and procedures. My expertise includes retention in over two hundred civil litigation matters regarding premise security with a concentration in security guard companies and individual employees of guard companies. For fourteen years I held the position of Chief Security Officer for KeyBank N.A and the Director of Corporate Security for Nestlé North America for fourteen years. I was also a managing director for Pinkerton Investigations and Consulting, a Senior Vice-President for a regional guard company as well as a security guard for the Ford Motor Company and a municipal police officer for ten years. I have been retained many times by attorneys in defending or developing strategies for litigation in defense of a business or persons that have been sued for questioned physical security measures and policies after a significant incident resulted.  I have also assisted many plaintiffs’ attorneys and provided expert services in cases in violent crime cases, shootings, and aggravated assault cases.       My work as a consultant and as an expert witness has involved me in performing security assessments, and designing security systems for banks, commercial buildings, restaurants, hotels and resorts, schools, and general businesses.

I have over fifteen years’ experience and management of all aspects of the investigation of fraud, money laundering, white-collar crime, identity crime, and special investigations involving unique banking products and brokerage systems, as well as commercial loan fraud and mortgage fraud

I have evaluated the physical security of a business as well as the soundness of policies and procedures that apply to the cases.  I have also provided expert witness services, depositions, and testimony in matters related to robbery/murder, negligent manslaughter, assaults, bank robbery, and necessary protection measures.

Additional Information about C.P.P. Certification from ASIS

  • Certified Protection ProfessionalIndependent validation of an individual's knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Backing of the world's largest association for security management practitioners

  • Protection from lawsuits involving ASIS certification that arise out of an act of terrorism under the SAFETY Act Designation awarded to ASIS by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

  • Continuing education requirements for recertification offer assurance that practitioners will remain current with best industry practices

Difference between certification and a certificate

  • Certification has an experience and education component; certificates are for all skill levels.

  • Certification indicates mastery/competency as measured against a defensible set of standards, usually by application or exam; a certificate indicates completion of a course or series of courses with specific focus.

  • Certification requires recertification, which ensures that the certified practitioner stays current in the field through continuing education; a certificate is the end result; may demonstrate knowledge of course content at the end of a set period of time.

  • Certification results in an earned designation to use after one's name (i.e. CPA, CPP, CAE); a certificate is usually listed on a resume detailing education; may result in a document to hang on the wall.

  • ASIS board certifications are ANSI accredited, which ensures a high threshold of qualifications and rigor have been met when a practitioner earns their CPP, PCI, and PSP credentials.
